The Great Lakes, also known as the Great Lakes of North America or the Laurentian Great Lakes, are 5 interconnect fresh water lakes in North America. The lakes, Eire, Huron, Michigan, Ontario, and Superior, are located in Canada and the USA. They are the largest group of freshwater lakes in the world by total area. A fun fact: all the Great Lakes have islands in their waters. The graph above shows where the thousands of islands reside.
Lake Superior has the most with over 2,500 islands. Lake Michigan has the least with just over 700 islands. Lake Erie (1773), Huron (1687), and Ontario (1847) all have about the same amount of islands.
