Taylor Swift uses specific times in her lyrics a lot. Swift currently has 10 studio albums, and all have at least one lyric that mentions a specific time of day. The graph above shows all those instances and which albums they appear on. Taylor Swift is very purposeful when writing her song lyrics, which makes analyzing them lot of fun.
A specific morning time is only used once in her discography. She sings about 7am in a sarcastic kind of way in the song, You Need to Calm Down, on the Lover album. Taylor Swift seems to be more a night owl.
At the start of her career, Swift really seemed to like “2am”. That time of day comes up 7 times!!!! in the first 5 albums. To try and mix it up a bit on Speak Now, she does use 1:58, and 2:30.
Swift also really likes to use the lyric ‘midnight’. Midnight first appears on Red, and has been consistently used ever since. Before Midnights came out, Swift sings about ‘midnight’ 6 times!
Now the album Midnights has the most about of midnight references. Which is not surprissing considering the albums name.
Swift has not written about 2am since the album 1989. She now prefers to use midnight. Maybe 2am has become a little to late for her, and midnight is now a more reasonable time to be gallivanting about 🙂
