Netflix decided to make a film adaption of Persuasion in 2022. One of the hardest and most interesting things about creating a movie is are the casting choices. Especially when that movie is based on a beloved book. More than any specific characteristics, the general vibe is the most important aspect about casting choices. But that’s hard to analysis. This graph is going to look at something specific, the ages of the actors vs the their character’s age in the book.
The actors age in the Netflix adaptation of Persuasion compared to their characters’s age in the book can be seen in the graph above. All the actors are older than their book counterparts. Which is surprising because Hollywood is known to be a little ageist, especial toward women. But not in this movie. The lead of Anne Elliot, age 27, is played by Dakota Johnson, age 32.
