The Masters is an annual golf tournament that is held in Augusta, Georgia. The first Masters tournament was held in 1934. A total of 84 tournaments have been played since. The graph above tracks every first place score at the Masters from 1934 – 2020.
In golf, the winner is the player with the lowest score. The graph above shows every first place score that won the Masters. The gray line connects every winning score. While the blue line is a smoothed version of the gray line. The blue line makes it easier to see the trend of the scores.
The scores have stayed pretty consistent over the last 80 years. However, there does seem to be a small trend of the scores getting smaller in the more recent decades. This indicates that is has become harder to win the tournament in more recent years.
