Jane Austen’s novel Pride & Prejudice has been turned into many movies, tv shows, and even plays. The two most famous adaptation are the 1995 BBC mini series and the 2005 movie directed by Joe Wright. The casting for these films have really influenced how many people see the characters in Pride & Prejudice. So the question is, how close are the ages of the actors to the character they are playing? The graph above shows the age of the Pride & Prejudice characters in the book, as well as the age of the actor who played them in both the 1995 BBC mini series, and the 2005 movie.
Over all the charters in the book are younger than the actors who play them. This makes sense, because it is easier to cast adults in roles than have to deal with the practical issues of having child actors. The 2005 movie did an overall better job at casting young actors, and are closer to the age of the characters in the book. The BBC mini series cast a 41 year old actor to play 25 year Mr Collins. They also cast a 27 year to play a 15 year old Lydia. Not ideal age casting here.
