The first Harry Potter book came out in 1997. The series quickly became extremely popular and the characters became universally known. Today Harry Potter is synonyms with the world of witchcraft. The world is made up of potions, mystical creatures, flying brooms, and most importantly spells. But how many spells actually existed in this world. The graph above shows the amount of unique spells mentioned in each Harry Potter novel. The books are listed in the chronological order.
The first book, “Sorcerer’s Stone” has only 4 different spells!! In this book we read about Harry getting his first wand at Ollivanders. This trip is a huge moment, where Harry learns about the importance of the connection between wizard and wand. But Harry and friends don’t learn a lot of spells in the “Sorcerer’s Stone”. In the second book “Chamber of Secrets” 10 unique spells were used. 10 is better than 4, but it still not a lot. Luckily things start changing with each of the subsequent novels. The fourth book, “Goblet of Fire”, has 31 unique spells. The final book, “Deathly Hallows”, has 46 unique spells which is the most out of all the novels.
