The first Harry Potter novel was published in 1997 and the last in 2007. The novel first become popular in the UK, where the books were original published by JK Rowling. But the series quickly gained followers in the USA and eventually worldwide. With the success of the books, movies were bound to happen. The first movie was released in 2001 and the last in 2011. The graph above shows the box-office gross movie sales for each Harry Potter movie.
In total, there are 8 Harry Potter movies for the 7 books. The last book, “Deathly Hallows” was split up into two movies “Deathly Hallows Part 1” and “Deathly Hallows Part 2”. The entire movie franchise was hugely successful with a total worldwide gross box-office sales of 7.7 billion US dollars.
The movie with the lowest sales was “Prisoner of Azkaban” by grossing 796 million US dollars. The movie with the highest sales was “Deathly Hallows Part 2” by grossing 1.34 billion US dollars. It is interesting to note that the first film, “Sorcerer’s Stone”, grossed 978 million US dollars. Which is second only to the final installment of the films. All of these movies were a huge success.
