The first Harry Potter book was published in 1997 in the UK. Six more books soon followed. After the first two books were published, the popularity of the series exploded. With the international success, Hollywood started fighting over the movie rights for the books. Warner Bros. Studios ended up winning the rights to produce all the films. The movies were mostly filmed at Leavesden Studios in Hertfordshire, in southeast England. The first movie was released in 2001, and seven more followed. The graph above shows the movie lengths for all eight Harry Potter films.
There are 8 movies in total that are based on the 7 Harry Potter novels. The last book was split up into two movies (“Deathly Hallows Part 1” and “Deathly Hallows Part 2”) because it was the last book of the franchise. All the movies are about the same length. “Deathly Hallows Part 2” is both the last movie made in the series and the shortest at 130 min. “Chamber of Secrets” is the second movie of the series and the longest at 161 min.
Harry Potter Movie Lengths Graph Notes:
The x-axis (horizontal part of the graph) shows the movie name (in chronological order). The y-axis (vertical part of the graph) shows the movie length in minutes. Each bar represents the lengths in total minutes that Harry Potter movie. There is not a strong pattern to this graph. The only interesting thing is that the movies get long and shorter for every other film. This pattern does break down for the last movie though.
