The majority of the Harry Potter book series takes place in the magical world of England. This world is home to British wizards who can create variouse spells with their wands. The actual amount of spells that were cast throughout the series varied quite a bit from book to book. The total spells used in each Harry Potter book are plotted in the graph above.
A shockingly small amount of spells (only 7 ) were used in the first book “Sorcerer’s Stone”. This ended up being the fewest amount used in any of the books. The second book, “Chamber of Secrets” did not have much more with only 13. Spell usage started to pick up in the following books.
“Prisoner of Azkaban” is the third book in the series. It had a total of 54 spells used. Thanks to all the fighting scenes, the last book “Deathly Hallows”, has the most with 128 spells. The rest of the books had a variety of spells used. The exact details can be seen in the graph above.

The x-axis (horizontal part of the graph) shows the book title. The y-axis (vertical part of the graph) shows the amount of spells. The amount of Harry Potter sells are the total spells cast, not the total unique spells cast. Sorcerer’s Stone had the least amount of total spells cast at 7. The Deathly Hallows had the most amount of total spells cast at 128. The graph has a lot of variety which makes sense because the range of spells used is 121 spells. The novels narrates the lives of a wizard, Harry Potter, and his friends Hermione Granger and Ron Weasley, who are all students at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.
